"How do I love thee? Let me count the ways."
I love this place because I can assume
my neighbors will recognize the quote
(and maybe quote the sonnet).
I love it for the people here, new friends,
all pioneering this new ground of growing old,
joining their considerable wits for common ends.
Civilized, intelligent, mostly altruistic, good.
Interesting.
I love my spacious view of Rincon Peak
(decades ago I climbed it, twice)
and sunrise, saguaros, stars, birds, and mesquite.
I watched meteors one night.
I love my house here, and the butterflies
outside my window.
I love the concerts and the lecturers
(how Monet worked, exactly how rainbows form).
I can't say I love yoga, but it's been good to me.
Aquacise is fun, and books, and hiking trails.
I love that I can walk to most of these.
Tucson's as nearly a home town as I have,
but being widowed changes the terrain.
My husband chose our homesite here--and died.
His legacy, a life rich in mind, in art, in nature.
Our daughter's family has our house in town,
my back-up and great blessing. But
I am here, being just myself
Among my peers and my superiors. Friends.
I love Academy Village.
