There are many reasons for enjoyment here – the climate, the scenery, the feel of being in a largely untouched environment which is populated by wildlife (both flora and fauna), yet supplied with the amenities of modern civilization. The general tone of Southwestern living is casual and unrushed, truly appreciated by those of us who have spent our careers surrounded by hype.
Academy Village is a very special part of the Southwest – a community populated with people who have reached a status of maturity which allows for leisure time to indulge in interests of both long-time and recent notice, to attend concerts, lectures, and social events with people of similar yet fascinatingly varied interests. Every event is stimulating, sometimes challenging, never threatening.
I am a single woman. I live alone in my house. Yet I do not live alone in my community. My neighbors – that is, all of my fellow Villagers – are friendly, helpful, supportive, kind, and keep their senses of humor handy. Yet they are NEVER intrusive. I never have unexpected guests who "drop in" for a visit without calling first. This gives me the double-good feeling of being surrounded by "family", yet having all the privacy I need to have.
All the little values of living here form a list far too long to go through, and far too valuable to me to measure. It is a life of boundless riches and yet wonderfully comfortable simplicity. Words escape me, so I'll quit.
