Why The Academy Village ?

One of our friends recently wrote to us that their retirement community makes a great effort to keep the aging population busy: arts and crafts, games, exercise, cards, woodworking, music, computers and a bus to take them to city events. The Academy Village doesn’t try to keep the aging population busy. It entices the residents to join activities whether intellectual or for enjoyment. The concept at The Academy Village is what drew us here from Philadelphia following retirement from Drexel University. The setting of The Academy Village community in the foothills of the Rincon Mountains is inspiring. We love it here, especially for the new friends that we have made and the opportunities that we have for enriching our lives.

Authors : Nan & Wayne Magee

Wayne especially enjoys more time for playing the cello than he used to have, both here at the Village in a small chamber group and with the Southern Arizona Symphony. At the same time he is continuing his life-long interest in biology by doing some teaching in honors sections at the University of Arizona where he has an appointment as Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology.

Nan, a former speech therapist specializing in better English for international university students, has become involved in organizing volunteers for the Vail school system. She has found her niche and really enjoys this opportunity. She works with the residents, Vail teachers and paraprofessionals.
